Students who book a lesson with a teacher enter a contract with this teacher pursuant to which the student agrees to purchase, and the teacher commits to deliver, a teaching service. By making a booking, students commit to attend the lesson or the workshop they have booked.
Please note that I may not be able to reply to your messages immediately if I am with a student or if you contact me outside of my working hours (8am - 8 pm British time). During my working hours, I generally reply in less than 3 hours.
Accepted payments
Payments on Erica's agenda (on homepage) are fully secure and processed with Paypal, Stripe or Square, either with a Paypal account if the student owns one, or by debit/credit card through Paypal, Stripe or Square payment gateways.
→ When you pay by card on Erica's Agenda, please note that Learn French Step by Step, or Erica Hunt as an individual, never receive your debit/credit card information. The Payment is processed by the payment gateway only.
Lessons and workshops are carried out on Zoom
Zoom is by far the best and most popular video meeting software. Not only it is very easy to use for the student, but it allows many more integrations than other softwares.
This is why the introductory interview, and all lessons and workshops are carried out on Zoom, outside of Learn French Step by Step's website. If you are used to another software and do not know Zoom at all, please contact me after booking your free introductory interview. I will send you a pdf tutorial to help you get started with the software.
Lessons are automatically recorded by the teacher from the start to the end of the meeting. It allows the teacher to send you the recording so you can watch the replay of your lesson. It also greatly helps for the preparation of your next lesson, to ensure that a coherent progression will be followed.
Please do not attend lessons or workshops on your mobile phone. Mobile phones do not provide a good working and learning environment.
All you need is your enthusiasm, a computer or large tablet with a good and stable internet connexion, plus a webcam and a headset.
Regular lessons and "themed lessons"
- Usually, once students have attended their free introductory interview and trial lessons, they book a regular lesson corresponding to their level of language. A regular lesson is integrated in a progression, that is to say a programme elaborated to help the student make progress in the acquisition of the four language competences. This programme follows the recommendations of the CEFR.
- "Themed lessons" are not part in a progression. They are intended to work on one particular notion, theme or competence only, and this is why they are offered at a reduced price.
They can be booked by any student at any stage of their learning process, provided the student has the level required to follow this lesson.
They can also be booked if the student needs a revision of that particular notion or competence.
Students who are taking regular lessons can book the "themed lessons" instead of a regular lesson when they have reached the point in their progression when the theme will be introduced. The teacher will always warn them of this possibility.
Students who have bought a pack of 10 lessons at a regular price and need to study a theme that is the object of a "themed lesson" will receive a refund corresponding to:
(price of one hour in their pack) - (price of the "themed lesson") = amount of their refund.

Late students
Please note that I may not be able to extend the duration of the lesson or workshop, nor increase the duration of the next lesson, if a student has arrived late at the meeting. Thank you very much for your understanding.
Cancellations and Refunds
Lessons can be cancelled and fully refunded up to 30 mn before they are due.
The refund will be sent to your Paypal account or the card used for the purchase.
You can reschedule or cancel your lesson or workshop as many times as you wish.
Please contact me if you need to cancel or reschedule your lesson or workshop less than 30mns before it is due, as you will not be able to do it from your agenda account.
In case I am offline the chat service, please leave a message.
A 10% administration charge may be taken by Learn French Step by Step if the lesson or workshop is cancelled less than 30 minutes before it is due. This is not compulsory and needs to be discussed with your teacher.
Students who do not cancel and miss their lesson or workshop will not be refunded, unless there was an acceptable reason for them to do so. If a refund is granted, a 10% administration charge will be taken by Learn French Step by Step.
10 hours packs.
Lessons you can not attend after buying a pack are refunded in the same conditions as other lessons, except that they are refunded at the "pack" price (price of the pack divided by ten).
However, if students attend less than 5 lessons in total in their pack, or if they request a refund after less than 5 lessons, then the lessons already taken will be charged at their normal price (= the price they cost when bought individually) and the refund will be recalculated accordingly.
Example:
Mr XYZ has bought a pack of 10 lessons for £160 (or the equivalent in your currency). Normally, 10 lessons cost £200 if bought individually. Mr XYZ attends only 4 lessons, and cancels the remaining lessons. Instead of receiving a refund of £96, he will receive a refund of £80 (4 lessons at £20 = £80. £160 - £80 = £80).
This does not apply if the pack was bought with a coupon code. The coupon code is a gift given to you by your teacher, and in case of a refund request, no lesson will be charged at the normal price even if the student cancels the pack after less than five lessons, or has attended less than 5 lessons from the 10 lessons booked.
Unless you warn me you do not want to proceed with the remaining lessons and request a refund, lessons in a pack may not be refunded immediately after cancellation, but at the end of the ten hours course, once the exact number of attended lessons is known. Thank you very much for your understanding.
Students who have bought a pack of 10 lessons at a regular price and need to study a theme that is the object of a "one off lesson" will receive a refund corresponding to:
(price of one hour in their pack) - (price of the "one off lesson") = amount of their refund.
Cancellations and loyalty points.
Please note that if you cancel a lesson, you will lose the loyalty points corresponding to it.
If you cancel a 10 hour pack before finishing it, you lose the loyalty points corresponding to the unattended lessons. Also, the points you keep will always correspond to the number you would have earned if you had bought each attended lesson individually, even if you have bought the pack with a coupon code.
You are entitled to a full refund after using the correction service if your exercise was correct and did not need any correction at all. I will accept to partially refund the service if there were very few corrections to be made on your work. However, if you are not entitled to a refund, you can ask me all the questions and precisions you need after receiving your exercise back.
Your payment will also be fully refunded, and no correction will be made, if you have sent by mistake a translation request, and if at least one of the documents you have sent is a .doc file.

"Ask a question" service.
You benefit from a Satisfied or Refunded Guarantee when you use the Ask a question service. Not happy with your answer? Any other problem? Although this service is based on donation, you are entitled to a refund. Contact me by email to ask for more explanation at no extra cost, or a full refund. Please use the same email that you entered in the question form.
In case you choose the supplement to your question, it will be sent in 24 hours maximum. In case you choose a full refund, it will be sent immediately if I am online, and in any case in 24 hours maximum.

For students based in the EU, please note that you benefit from the same rights as if Learn French Step by Step was based in the EU*. For students based outside of the UK and EU, please note that as Learn French Step by Step is compliant with UK laws and EU GDPR, you also benefit from the highest level of protection.
* Except for free assistance from European Consumer Centres, as this assistance is only given if the business is based in the EU.
When making a purchase with Paypal, you also benefit from Paypal's Buyer Protection. You have 180 days from the date of the transaction to open a dispute in Paypal's resolution centre.
